Inspiration: Yeasayer @ Take Away Show

Thanks to Alexander we got a gig tonight at the Hogeschool Rotterdam. Second year students from a film elective were making a band video and they needed volunteers. Complete with two megaphones, all instruments and amps, we lugged our things by metro one stop from Coolhaven to Dijzijgt. Made me think of the amazing Yeasayer edition of the Take Away Show, and also an idea to file away for making some music of our own in the metro...

IO Festival, June 18th

BAMM Mini-Festival, 28 May

In het woon-werk-pand dat vroeger de Rotterdamse 'Raad van Arbeid' huisvestte organiseert Freewheelers vrijdag 28 mei een mini-festival met huiskamer-concerten, bandjes, dj's, multimediale presentaties, film en een stel schapen.

Het officiële blokkenschema volgt snel, maar je bent welkom vanaf 19:30 en het hele spektakel zal wat ons betreft tot in de late uurtjes doorgaan.

Onder de titel Parfum de Boem Boem worden er in Rotterdam sinds drie jaar tochten georganiseerd langs de verschillende bouwputten die de stad rijk is. Speciaal voor Motel Mozaïque was er een tocht langs bouwputten in de omgeving. Deze tocht begon bij de tijdelijke Pauluskerk aan de Mauritssingel waar we van Wilma een toelichting kregen over het verleden, heden en de toekomst van de Pauluskerk. Ook vertelde ze over hoe het was om een gebruikster te zijn. Ze maakte er een indrukwekkend verhaal van. De tweede stop was bij de Calypsolounge, de voorlichtingsruimte over De Calypso, het appartementencomplex dat verrijst aan de Mauritssingel op de plek waar bioscoop Calypso vroeger stond. Helaas was de lounge zelf gesloten, maar een rondje rond de bouwput maakte veel goed.
Hierna vervolgden we onze weg naar de bouwput op het Kruisplein, waar een ondergrondse parkeergarage van vijf niveaus diep wordt aangelegd. Het bijzondere is dat het bovenste niveau een tunnel wordt, met een ondergrondse rotonde zodat vanaf het Weena ondergronds de parkeergarage aan het Schouwburgplein bereikt kan worden.
Verderop bij de bouwput voor het nieuwe metrostation bij Rotterdam Centraal speelde een heel leuk bandje, genaamd Me Like You. Ik heb me laten vertellen dat dit hun derde optreden was.

Na een bezoek aan het Infracentrum waar we de maquette te zien krijgen van het nieuwe Rotterdam Centraal was het tijd terug te gaan naar het Schouwburgplein. Daar werd door een ingenieur van bureau West 8 (de oorspronkelijke ontwerpers van het huidige Schouwburgplein) verteld dat het plein een update gaat krijgen. Het plein heeft de naam koud en kil te zijn en om daar verbetering in aan te brengen wordt onder meer gekeken naar verbeterde toegangen tot het verhoogde plein, betere oppervlakte (met name minder glad) en meer groen om het plein heen. Ook is er vanuit de culturele instellingen om het plein heen (Rotterdamse Schouwburg, Pathé en De Doelen) een organisatiecommissie opgestart, die ervoor moet zorgen dat het plein optimaal gebruikt gaat worden voor evenementen, waar het ooit voor bedoeld was. Een goede ontwikkeling!
Met dit toekomstbeeld kwam Parfum de Boem Boem en daarmee Motel Mozaïque 2010 ten einde. Volgend jaar ben ik er zeker weer bij!"

Guerilla Concerts de Boem Boem

Hey everyone,

we are still recovering from a very intense weekend. Friday and Saturday was of course Motel Mozaique with awesome bands like 'Three Trapped Tigers' and 'Soil and Pimp Sessions'. And we were up before noon to play at the construction sites of Rotterdam Kruisplein and Central Station on saturday and sunday for Parfum de Boem Boem. We scraped together all the battery powered amplification we could find and played for 12 guided tours of 20 people each, plus all the people that walked by and stopped to watch. We loved you, you were a wonderful audience!











Now, we also promised a new mp3, but since we were all so busy performing and watching bands ourselves, that's been delayed for a couple of days. No worries, it's gonna be awesome and it will be there before the end of this week.

It's official, this Sat and Sun we will be playing in the Kruiskade construction site as a part of 12 Parfum de Boem Boem tours during Motel Mozaique festival in Rotterdam.

8x, Sat 12:00-4:30

in the bouwput kruisplein at the corner of the Multicopy (maps: Kruisplein 23-B, rotterdam)

Losers and Zombies

Hey everyone,

we are really happy that you all came out yesterday to watch us play at the ungodly hour of 9pm. We had a lot of fun with you guys! I'm afraid we didn't "win" the contest, which basically means we don't have the opening spot on the IO Festival this year.
But don't be sad. Yesterday was just the start. It's zombie hunting season!
Everybody who made vids and/or pics is kindly requested to email them to us at melikeyoutheband@gmail.com so we can post them on this website.
We will have one or two gigs and release more material (mp3s) in the coming weeks, so stay posted!

This course explores the history, significance, and representation of the zombie as a figure in horror and fantasy texts. Instruction follows an intense schedule, using critical theory and source media (literature, comics, and films) to spur discussion and exploration of the figure�s many incarnations. Daily assignments focus on reflection and commentary, while final projects foster thoughtful connections between student disciplines and the figure of the zombie.

Course descriptions are stored in OASIS and are maintained by the Associate Dean for each School.

Bandcontest / mp3 release !

Hey everyone,

since we haven't formerly introduced it, this is Me Like You's official website in the form of a blog. We also have a facebook page for "fans/friends" and a bandcamp to post our music. (that's it)

Coming thursday, we're performing in the Speakers in Delft as part of a band contest for the yearly Industrial Design faculty festival.
WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR PEOPLE TO TAKE PICTURES AND VIDEOS!!!

Also important: we are the first band, to start at 9pm.
We are simultaneously releasing the first mp3 of our EP that night! The other songs will be released in the coming weeks and lastly will come the total release of our EP.

SOUND BUILDERS: PEAKING LIGHTS



Voor deze eerste aflevering van Sound Builders ging VBS naar Madison, Wisconsin om een bezoekje te brengen aan Peaking Lights, een getrouwd muzikaal stel dat bekend staat om hun pulserende, geloopte ritmes die zijn gecomponeerd op wat je eigenlijk het beste kunt omschrijven als schroot. We zien hoe de twee zich voorbereiden op een tour door hun studio te strippen van alleen de noodzakelijke dingen die nodig zijn om Peaking Lights' onderscheidende geluid te creëren. Ook kregen we een beeld van Arons compleet ontechnische maar enorm rigoureuze proces van het Frankensteinen van langvergeten electronica. Met stukken hout, metaal en plastic produceren Peaking Lights een verrassend en ook nog eens ontzettend persoonlijke resultaat. Bekijk het hier.
